1978 Monte w/ 231 V6

I am looking into buying a 1978 Monte Carlo with the Buick 231 V6/ What performance can I expect? And what minor performance modifications can I do?

Not much unless u spray,supercharged/turbo it.There are some mods depending on your emissions regulations.If you really want to keep the six I would do a blow thru turbo setup with some sort of bonnet/enclosure or put small block chevy in it.

As for mods for the N/A 231
4.1 4barrel intake,or edelbrock perfomer buick kit includes cam,intake,CARB
Change the gears most g-body 231 usually have 2.41-2.73 change to 3.23 or 3.42.

i had an 83 with a v6 went with a 3.23 gear and 2 1/4 exhuast no muffler
and was decent . on the 78 use later 80 up heads/intake ,bigger ports
get a slightly higher convertor, a decent but not too big cam
pace setter has headers for it.
200 4r trans will has a deep 1 st gear with overdrive to take up loss with
the 3.23 gears
if your in chicago area i have a 79 turbo setup you could have
in trade for a 204/214 cam you could get here on the board

I have a really clean 4.1 intake you can have for $75 if you want it. You will have to change the heads to the 79 and up castings to use it though.
