I just met someone who has a 1980 Buick regal with velour interior, and a black front roof and hood. It also has a 4.3 V6 in it. Does anyone know where I could get some info on the car. He says that it is not a Somerset. Thanks.

Are you sure the black paint on the roof and hood aren't dark blue? 1980 was the first year for the Desiners Paint option. I think it looks better than the 2-tone of the 81 and newer Regals. Kind of like what they did for paint on the 79-80 Cutlass H/O-442. And that's a 4.3 V-8 not V-6 in there. A POS Pontiac 265 2V motor. Most likely one of the 6904 Regal Limiteds with a V-8 built in 1980.

If by chance that is dark blue paint instead of black than he does have the rare Somerset model. They were all tan exterior with the dark blue upper paint and tan with blue piping cloth seat interior. No idea on how many Somersets were built in 1980.

Eric-
Yes you are right it does have a 4.3L V8. I really just met the man over the phone and all I know for now is that he is not the original owner, the car is a blue or tan (I forgot) but he states that it looks lavender and has a black(?) front portion of the roof and hood. I did not see the car personally so I can't comment on much more. He also said that the car does not have Somerset emblems on it and that it has the plush velour interior.
Are there any trunk codes or any other codes I could use to help him find out what he has?

Unless there is a build sheet hiding somewhere than all you have is the cowl tag. The trim and paint codes are on it. That should tell us if it is black or blue anyway. According to the book, Standard Catalog of Buick 1903-2000 the 1980 Somerset has several distinct features that seperate it from a Limited. Instead of fake woodgrain on the dash and door trim it has brushed aluminum. And there is also a roof mounted assist strap over the passengers door. It also says Somerset on the dash trim. I guess if somebody took off the Somersets on the fender than it would still say Somerset on the dash were it usually says Regal or Limited. It also has tan door and seat trim with a blue carpet if that makes a difference.
