I think one of the most interesting parts is the discussion about the ESC (middle of article). These cars knocked so much, that drivers could feel the retarding and advancing of the timing. But the big thing to know here is that premium unleaded was not widely available yet in 1982. These cars were running on 87 octane! Which explains the pitiful 16.7 ET in the quarter mile. But they were still the fastest thing on the road besides the Corvette and Mustang.
I wish I still had the 79 Turbo Regal my Folks had way back then. I knew all along that the Cat , straw size singe exhaust , tight converter and terrible 2.42 rear gear made this a real dog but i couldn't talk Dad into making mods like that
