what's going on guys new here. Need some tech info have a problem with my 84 GN. Throws white smoke from exhaust already rebuilt the turbo twice, had valve stem seals installed oil comes out of the compressor new pcv, good compression on all six cylinders. Any idea on what could be the problem?????:confused:

is it like steam? Could be blown head gasket, check if your cooling system holds pressure. leakdown test is a better way of checking compression.
 
how are the spark plugs on that thing?? i just got back my turbo from a rebuild n upgrades, New wires and v power plugs. Ran real strong start up, blew all the oil out of the exhaust lasted for 15-25mins. After i gutted the cat n Still runs high idle n every time i give it gas white smoke. I need to reset my TPS/IAC n adjust. Im sure my spark plugs went south. I would check your plugs n coil make sure no misfire
 
Check the oil drain tube for obstructions if it is draining ok, it may be a bad rebuild.If u search around the forum i was reading about carbon seals and stuff like that.
 
Was just looking around ebay they are selling that turbo pretty cheap on there. I think it is worth a shot to try a different unit,u may also pick a good used one up here in the parts wanted section.Best of luck with it.
 
only white smoke on gas. Less then 6k on the motor. maybe head gakets maybe not but im sure its the sensors, O2 is bad as well. MAN!!!! when a turbo blows a seal it F#%# up everything :( my car was running GREAT! now my O2, TPS, IAC need adjustment/tweaking(minus O2 sure it just needs to be replaced) O2 is from 90's just about haha. BTW how the hell do you even get to the O2??? DEEP socket or key, IF I COULD I WOULD WELD O2 CLOSED. Then weld a O2 bung on the UP pipe for better reach.........hmmmmmmmm (ligh bulb) maybe haha
 
ok, my UP is leaking along with my ELBOW, other then just tighting the bolts more what else can i do to stop the leak?? copper gaskets?? new donuts etc??
 
;) Thank you luisturbog, i was just about to ask what to use,:cool: i just put this thing all back together. now i got to do it all over again......:D haha I used 500' engine paint n it looks great n sticks, no burning off:cool: on my DP, UP, elbow, Turbo.
 
Probably did a rebuild on the turbo with the wrong type of seals, I can't be sure if you need a carbon seal or dynamic.... but i went through this myself
 
X2 If the turbo seals were bad, then thick white smoke would come out of the exhaust(been there) and you would smell the difference.


I had a smoking problem after getting my turbo back. I ran a full tank of 93 techron with LUCAS(half a 32oz bottle)changed out my TPS/IAC sensor with spares. I let it run for 2 days (5hrs each) just idle. No more smoke like before but i do have smoke from my leaking elbow. So check if you have a exhaust leak if not, check your plugs.
Hows the car running now??
