OK, our '99 Suburban wouldn't start on Thursday. The Engine would run for 1-2 seconds then stall when letting off start position, I have checked fuel and ignition all look good. It seems to be an issue with the PassLock sensor in the ignition. I plan on replacing the sensor, ignition switch, tumblers and springs. I was told that the new sensor must be programmed to the vehicle? I assume using a Tech2$$. For the GM techs, what else do I need to complete this? Please keep in mind that this is the wife's daily driver so it's better to spend some money now rather than make her angry when this fails again:mad:

I had the same problem with our 2000 Escalade. Would fire for about a second then die. The problem started last year at the nats. I was first in line for the gates to open and then my damn tow vehicle would not start. Everyone in line behind me went right past. As soon as the last car went by, it suddenly started.

It did it again and so I took it to the dealer. They replaced the passlock module and said it was fixed but couple weeks later it did it again. Took it back and they replaced the ignition switch I think. Did it again and took it back. They replaced some other security module and that seems to have fixed it. I can try to find out exactly what it was if you want.

I can hear my phone ringing already...:D I don't remember what module we used to finally fix it Sully. If you look on the last receipt it should list the part number.

Like I have the receipt. How about a customer service history or something.

The parts dept. computers aren't linked to customer sevice records.

I have a 96 Grand Am that I had to replace the gauge cluster. It suffered from the same symptoms. Here's all you need to do.
1. Turn the key and start the vehicle
2. Leaving the key in the run position for 5 minutes (the theft light will go from blinking to solid).
3. Start the vehicle. (Do not turn the key to the OFF position before starting the car)

I'd guess it's the same procedure.
