my front seal is leaking this will be the third time the tranny is commin out of my car the first time it lasted a year then started leaking the second time i did a teflon coated pump bushing seal and retainer and hardened stator support the neck of the convertor looked perfect just some really, really light scratches 3 months later now and the tranny's commin out agian what the hell do i do ????
any suggestions or recommendations ? id like this to be the last time this tranny is commin out. im on a real tight budget the next few months so its gotta be done cheap?

i already have a new convertor comming from a fellow board member and a new seal, im told i should drill the drain back hole open on the pump what size should it be done to ? and other suggestions while its out ?

i need new speedo gears but what colors ? i have a mainly stock 86 442 200 4r (i think its KZ code) and an 8.5 3:73 rear

Yes, drill the pump seal drainback holes out with a 9/64 bit if that hasn't already been done. Since you are having repeated problems, I'd also check the following:
  • Make sure that both dowel pins are in place on the back of your block.
  • Check the dowel receiver holes in your transmission case for excess wear. Worn holes can be sleeved.
  • Inspect your flexplate. Bolt your new converter to the flexplate without the transmission, turn the engine by hand & measure the pump-drive hub runout using a dial indicator. You should see less than .015" TIR.
  • Use a quality, Made in the USA, front seal such as a National brand.

Could it be possible something is out of balance ? i noticed that when i drop to 3rd on the highway and step on it when it gets to about 4,000 rpm maybe 4500 if i stay there it vibrates very noticable if i accelerate more it goes away and if i decelerate it goes away and if i put it in 4th it goes away this car has always done that i know its not anything in the suspension cause everything is new including the tires (only thing not new is the control arm bushings)

i used a timken seal last time i got it as well as my other parts from http://gparts.freeyellow.com last time the tranny was out i changed the flexplate so im assuming its not anything wrong with the flexplate but i will try to find a run out gauge and check the convertor run out if i use a dial caliper how big should the dowel pin holes be ?
