Hey guys, like the title says, sorry if this has been covered (which I'm sure it has), but I searched through some history and couldn't quite find the same thing. I am new to Turbo Buicks, and have a roller 1987 Turbo T, and just purchased an incomplete engine for it. Before I have the any work done with the engine and have it ready to drop in, I figure I should get the transmission ready. I would like to have a 200 for it, and my goal is running mid to high 11's (11.5-11.7 or so). What kind of mods need to be done to it to support those kind of times? In reality, the car will mostly be street driven, but I would like to have it at the track occasionally. Sorry for the lengthy post.

Thanks, Kelly

Get a stage 1 tranny from lonnie or any o the reputable tranny guys mentioned around the site.

Just to clarify, you are wanting a 200-4r, right?

Are you planning on building it yourself? If so, check out this stickie.

Even if you aren't, plenty of info. Search is your friend. Plenty of info to sift through.
Your goals seem defined, but they will change without self control.

You don't say what part of the country you are in. I'd get someone local. Just way easier if probs crop up.

If you have more specific questions, post em up.

Right, a 200-4r, if it's possible to build myself, I would like to. I am in central Ohio, and I'm sure there are a few places familiar around here with those transmissions. Thanks!

Vince Janis would be my first call in Ohio.

Any of the vendors on the board are good builders.
If you are building it yourself, the ck manual is good reading. An atsg manual is good reference with specs and such. There is a video for basic overhaul info.

Plenty of support here also .

Great, Thanks! Is there any reason I should avoid the 200-4r?

None I can think of. Unless you are in the 9s, don't need overdrive, or want to skimp on the build. Going cheap will cost in the get to do it again column.

thank you very much. so I should buy a stock one and have a "Stage 1" overhaul on it?

If you are going to buy a built one, I'd call around. You might not need a core to exchange.
