I'm trying to electrically connect a 2001 am/fm/cd (Delco part 09394149, from an Oldsmobile Silhouette) into my 87 Regal. The connections at the back of the head unit are different from the 1988-199? versions. In other words, this h/u is 2 generations newer than the Regal. I understand that there are new circuits that run through the h/u (door chime, etc) but if all I need are the 12dc in, ignition 12vdc, ground, power antenna out, and speakers could this still be doable? Anybody ever done this?

As long as its a 1.5 din head, it will work. Just have to get the wiring correct to work with the factory wiring.

Ahhh, but the devil is in the details, isn't it?

It is a 1.5 din head and although the physical mounting points are closer together than the stock unit, the problem of fabricating the matching mounting brackets does not bother me.

It is getting the pin-out details from this new head and finding a proper plug that does!

I have fabricated harnesses by using 6" of the factory harness from new head unit and soldering a Metra adapter to the 6" harness that will "plug" in to the factory Buicks harness. That is once you have found the pin out diagram for the new head unit. I will check with the owner of a stereo shop that I do business with and get the correct pin outs for that particular head and post it or e-mail it to you. I work 12 hour shifts this week so I should have the info that you need by Wednesday.

'Class 2 data system' ??

According to Mike Brechue, Product Specialist with Metra Electronics: I don't think that radio can be installed into a car that does not have the class two data system. If you want to try it the harness is part #71-2003-1."

Now that just makes me want to try all the more! If only I had any glimmer of idea what a 'class two data system' was. I have searched the internet in vain for any info. The harness part #, btw, is just the harness that plugs into the head. Mike was not telling me that that harness would plug into the Regal wiring.
