Doing a conversion to an electric fan for my stock location intercooler and have a thread going on the turbo section of the board. One member suggested tying into the plug on the trans for 3rd gear. Was going to use a window switch but this sounded like a less complicated way of doing it. Want the fan to shut off once the car is up to speed and I am assuming that the 3rd gear switch is always grounded in 1st & 2nd? So when the trans shifts into Drive the switch opens? I was going to connect the ground wire from the relay I am using to that wire. OK to do?

One thing I was wondering is what happens when the trans shifts to overdrive? Will the 3rd gear switch remain open?? Don't want the fan coming on in in Drive OR Overdrive. thanks for any advice.

I don't know about that !!!!!!

I do know that once the car goes into 3rd the lite comes on on DS--once it shifts into 4th the 4th lite comes on and the 3rd also stays on. I once though about using the 3rd gear signal for a circuit I had drawn up for L/U @ WOT. It was shot down by John @ Caspers and Eric @ Turbo Tweak. Maybe one of them will come on with some electical advise. Something about low voltage or back feeding into the ECM. Best of luck.

Would just be using it as a ground for the relay. Another member said he did it this way. Was going to use a rpm window switch but thought the trans way would be better.
