I thought this was a YAMAHA but got looking and it seems to be a Star, but the web site seems that the Star is somehow connected with Yamaha.

Too expensive to sell well. I don't personally care for the exhaust and headlight treatment. All in all, probably the only cruiser/ musclebike I'd consider owning.

Correct, Star/Yamaha = Same;)

I think GM tried the badge engineering. Failed bit.

That bike is evil. I would like to see a turbo kit on it.

I have always loved the V-Max. they have building that bike since the late 80's haven't they?

That and the Kawasaki Eliminator were rivals back in the day..........

This is the one I had I would have loved to turbo this thing..After I bought my GN it was in the way with the camaro and the GN in the garage and I decided to sell it..

I too have always loved that bike...pure muscle bike IMO. Although, I'm not in love with the new look...it seems to me they are trying too hard. Anyhow, back in the late 90's when I moved to Kansas I was at a car wash near the house when a guy walked up to me and was talking to me about my GN and how much he wanted one and whatnot. Anyhow, turns out he lived down the road from me and invited me back to his house to take a peek at his V-Max which was actually a special edition "Mad-Max" version...NOS and all. It was 100% evil and he wanted to make a trade for my GN...I passed. I guess some outfit out of CA. modified the V-Max into the aforementioned version. I wish I could recall what the bike dynoed at to the back tire...it was VERY high from what I can remember! I'd own an older version if any...back in the day I even went to a dealer to buy one new and they wanted too much for it and would not budge on the price.

Vmax

Mad Max is a personal friend of mine. My father grew up with him. He looks like a mad scientist in his little shop. You would not believe some of the Vmaxes that have come out of his shop.My favorite one was the super charged N20 monster that he built for my buddy John.I also bought a few bikes from him. My last one was a 185 rwhp bike that I sold to buy my GN. God I miss that bike!!!! I almost bought another one over the weekend. But I really have no time to ride it. As for the new Vmax I was one of 16 people(including Mad Max and my buddy John)who was invited for a round table discussion with the head of Yamahas marketing division back in 2001 about the feasability of a brand new Vmax at Nino's Restaurant in Waterbury CT. We discussed what we would want in a brand new bike. And the maximum price we would pay for it. We all agreed on 200 rwhp, alum chassis, upgraded brakes and suspension,a more comfortable seat and a greater range and less weight..And we said we would pay no more than 14k. Well I see they listened to most of what we said other than the price and weight. Early reports say the bike was really detuned to produce 200 rwhp. This will be a monster when someone puts a turbo on it. I have owned about a dozen Vmaxes over the years and loved everyone of them. By far the best bikes I have ever owned.I sold one with over 60k on it back in 1995 and it currently has over 135k and the valve covers have never been off(except for a new set of valve cover gaskets)The bike just gets routine maintence.Would I pay 18k for a new one. No way.I will just buy a mid 90's model and put a 75shot on it. Much more fun and I could use the 13k I saved and buy a killer GN motor!!

Something else I found out about the Max was that all bikes delivered to CA. were smogged down to a lower HP rating. The one I was looking at new was originally going to a dealer in CA. but ended up in Kansas somehow. Anyhow, the salesman told me it was a CA. motor so that helped me make the decision to pass on the deal. Anyone know what the standard HP was and how much it was detuned for CA.?
