HI GUYS
I,ve gone back in the forums and have read-up on a lot of info pertaining to the 200r4.I,m impressed with the knolledge that is pass between those that know and those that have problems.
I,m trying to get away from a problem that might develope in my 200r4.
I have a 79 Regal with a pretty stout 455 Buick engine in front of a newly hi-perf built 200r4.Unfortunatly I spun a bearing in the 455 last fall and never got to punish the 200r4 to test it.The one time a few days after I put improved heads on the 455 that I tested the manual shifting of the trans I didn,t like the feel of the way it shifted.
Here is a bit of history on the trans.
The trans came out of a 84 V6 fullsize Buick B-body car.The trans was completely overhaul and than modified by one of the better trans shops in my town. Most of the local street/strip guys have trans done there. As far as i know the trans has a TRANS-GOshift kit and a ART CARR hardden imputshaft and GM rebuild internals. The trans shifts like a draeam under normal driving conditions.I,m happy and pleased with this part.
The governor is still the V6 because under WOT it shifts way early for the 455.
Now the problem
The manual shifting of it at 5500rpms or so is terrible. It drags between gears and you have to leave of the gas for it to shift and than it jumps into the next gear.
The car has set for all this year because of update I,m doing to the car[new motor/suspencion/MSD/NOS fuel system and such. The trans is being yank when the old motor is coming out and at that time I,m want to improve the trans.
I,m going with a deeper pan and better filter/change the governor to something that will hold it,s shift to 5500RPM if possible.Maybe not a good idea?I run full synthetic trans fluid in it.It has it,s own trans cooler.
What can I do to make this tranny last and shift in this car.
I have a small fortune invested in the tran now with the stall convertor and lock-up system.
I,m trying to stay away from destroying it and starting all over.
Sure would appreciate any advice or a direction to find other related info on this
