HI GUYS
I,ve gone back in the forums and have read-up on a lot of info pertaining to the 200r4.I,m impressed with the knolledge that is pass between those that know and those that have problems.
I,m trying to get away from a problem that might develope in my 200r4.
I have a 79 Regal with a pretty stout 455 Buick engine in front of a newly hi-perf built 200r4.Unfortunatly I spun a bearing in the 455 last fall and never got to punish the 200r4 to test it.The one time a few days after I put improved heads on the 455 that I tested the manual shifting of the trans I didn,t like the feel of the way it shifted.
Here is a bit of history on the trans.
The trans came out of a 84 V6 fullsize Buick B-body car.The trans was completely overhaul and than modified by one of the better trans shops in my town. Most of the local street/strip guys have trans done there. As far as i know the trans has a TRANS-GOshift kit and a ART CARR hardden imputshaft and GM rebuild internals. The trans shifts like a draeam under normal driving conditions.I,m happy and pleased with this part.
The governor is still the V6 because under WOT it shifts way early for the 455.
Now the problem
The manual shifting of it at 5500rpms or so is terrible. It drags between gears and you have to leave of the gas for it to shift and than it jumps into the next gear.
The car has set for all this year because of update I,m doing to the car[new motor/suspencion/MSD/NOS fuel system and such. The trans is being yank when the old motor is coming out and at that time I,m want to improve the trans.
I,m going with a deeper pan and better filter/change the governor to something that will hold it,s shift to 5500RPM if possible.Maybe not a good idea?I run full synthetic trans fluid in it.It has it,s own trans cooler.
What can I do to make this tranny last and shift in this car.
I have a small fortune invested in the tran now with the stall convertor and lock-up system.
I,m trying to stay away from destroying it and starting all over.
Sure would appreciate any advice or a direction to find other related info on this

Thanks for the reply.
I didn,t know it wasn,t right to swap governors.I did see how to modify the governors on the 200r4,s so that will be what I will do.I have read everything in that article and it,s well informed.
I,m going to take a pressure reading on the trans first and make sure the pressure is where it,s got to be.I,ve seen some info some place on that.
Going to look at some of the dealers that supply hi-po parts for these trans and see what I can buy to solve this problem.
Question
What does a servo do?
I,m sorry but I,m really not educated in the workings of the 200r4 transmissions.Trying to learn as much as possible to make the right choices.

Servo is used to apply pressure to the band for 2nd gear and releases for 3rd. Well worth the $ for a larger billet one. (firmer apply, quicker release and stronger holding) Also depending on what your press.'s are you might want to get PTS's pr (pressure regulator) system. The servo and pr system will not only increase performance but longevity as well! check out these sites.

Thanks

sound like what needs to be done.
Now I notice theres a difference in servo sizes.Does it matter what tranny needs what size or are all 200r4 basic in design so many parts are interchangeable?
I,m going to follow these links a see what I can learn .

All parts for all 200r4's are intercangeable, what sets the factory performance one's apart from the others are the vb's, gov. and servo. What you want is the the largest servo possible.

FYI, here's a list of the 200 4Rs that have the best valve bodies, governors
and servos--otherwise all the internals are basically the same. The numbers
94 & 92 is the last number on the servo cover and the code is on the trannie
tag near the rear.

Code Model
BRF 86-87 Grand National Servo casting # = 94 Lipseal servo w/
strongest spring
TAF* 89 Anniversary T/A Servo casting # = 94 Lipseal servo w/
strongest spring
CZF/CRF 86-87 Monte Carlo SS Servo casting # = 92 Lipseal servo w/ 2nd
strongest spg
OZF/KZF 85-7 442 , 83-4 Hurst Olds Servo casting # = 92 Lipseal servo w/
2nd strongest spg

The most common "good" ones are the ones in Monte Carlo SSs. The reason the

I was looking at the big mother of a servo and the P/R valve &spring.
Prices seem pretty reasonably for what they do.
How about that adjustable servo arm?
Is that something to think about.
What kind of skills do you have to install these parts?

happy news

well it seems after putting up with how badass 5gen f-body camaros are my son is thinking about buying a T-Type turbo regal again.i could have almost brokedown a cried when he said he wanted to get one again. His first go was with a hot-air 85 with lots of michigan rust.In our area there is almost know one that knows anything about a hot air car.the mechanics were starting to go to hell and he just unloaded it and than got the F-body.It was a nice car but it had a lot of plastic in it.felt cheap to sit in.have to give him credit thou that LT1 hauled ass.So in spring time it turbo BUICk hunting we will go.Can,t wait.

The servo and pr system are among the easiest things on the tranny to do, and yes to the adjustable servo pin, it is almost a must if you get the servo. All of which can be installed w/o trans or even vb removal. If you get them from PTS you also get their tech and customer service that is #1 bar nun! and with that you should be able to get them installed correctly. :D
