231 buildup

This has probably been posted a million times, but I could not find anything specific. I'm looking to get 200+hp out of my 231 v6 na- what mods should I make?

NOS should get you there.

Otherwise, you're looking at a cam, intake & 4 bbl., headers and exhaust.

thanks-well, I got the intake and q-jet already......with that, the headers, exhaust and cam should get me at 200?

With proper cam selection, a good exhaust & keen tuning, it shouldn't be far from 200 Hp. If you're feeling adventurous, consider having some head work done. There's a lot to be gained there plus you can port match your intake to the heads as well.

thanks, I have a kenne belle alum. intake witha q-jet and adapter plate....any recommendations on a cam that will fit?

There are a couple in the Comp High-Energy series. The 69-234-4 will work decently with your existing converter and rear gear assuming that you have a stock 'high ratio' rear.

If you're willing to install a mild converter and a 3.42/3.73 rear gear (highly recommended to get the most out of your car), then you'd do much better with the 69-246-4. You can see the cam specs here. Give them a call to discuss the cam further.

Ruggles was getting 250 hp out of these engines years ago. Look for the Buick Power Source book or the mag articles with his buildups.
