are these heads any good? i pulled a set off of a blown 231 that i had in my basement, are they worth porting and polishing for the gn or does the gn heads flow better?

the strange thing is that those heads came off of a 85 cutlass that my grand dad baught new:confused: i thaught that they were only produced in 86 and 87???

the 8445's have been around a long while. they're really common, and the hotairs had them too. it's the block that went through a ton of changes and revisions. gnttype has a cool history page that lists all of the progression, but they mix up the 3800 and fwd 3.8 stuff in with it to make it a little confusing.

im planning on building me a lc2 long block ive already got the dot 2 rods, turbo crank, heads, ect all i need is to find a 109 block and have it drilled and taped for the oil return line. im going to use 87 gn headers and use a 4bbl intake manifold from a 252. i plan on running a stock mount gn intercooler and a carb box with a holly 4bbl carb in it. sound like a good idea?

If you're going to go that far, why not just do the whole thing and go SFI w/ the computer and all? I'm not sure anyone has tried an intercooled blow through carb setup, it might not be that bad. You'll have to deal with things like sealing the carb though to keep boost in.

im gona do it for the cool-oddness factor that i would get at car shows and cruse nights, i dont expect sfi teritory performance but who knows. thats why ive got the gn any way, if i need to kick some ones butt itll be the 87 doing the job.

Damn good idea. :D I been gearing up to do the same on an '82 GN I have. The previous owner made a mess of the engine, so I figure I'll try something different. "Blow-thru turbo" It will have the benefit of aftermarket parts (I found a THDP at a swap meet for $25 :D ) but still be carbed. It can also use an intercooler. But it's still a Carb/Turbo (or turbo/carb?) becuase it won't have SFI.

I wrote just a little bit of this up here:
