I just thought I would share my excitement with you guys. It has been exactly 3 years today since the last time I got high or drunk. I had used to have a substance abuse problem, mainly with marijuana. And it progressed to some other harder drugs ( mainly hallucinagens) and also alcohol. I was in the slump for about 4 years, starting when I was about 16. Now I am 23 and I am married to a beautiful lady. God has done some wonderful thing in my life since I got my act together. There is no way I would have cleaned up if it wasn't for God and my relationship with Him. If there are any guys on here still doing any of that stuff, I just want you to know first hand that life is much better without having to rely on a drug for your happiness. Plus you don't have to worry about getting busted. Let it go. It will only make your life worse. Trust me.

Dude, congratulations. That had to be very, very hard. I don't consider myself to have a problem, but I like to slam them down a bit. All I know is, I would never be able to follow a 12 step program, no matter what. It would have a zero chance of working for me, even if I really needed it. Congrats again to you though!

congratulations Josh, you are no doubt in a minority, but no doubt, not alone. Life certainly does get better. It sounds like you have a real strong foundation, keep the faith, brother.

Congrates!!! I have AA members in my family and thier sobriety has been a blessing for us all. God Bless!

That is Great! Keep up the good work. I'm sure you have a lot of support from family and friends.

Thanks for all of the encouraging comments guys. This site is awesome. At most of the other sites that I have been to, the guys are so immature. I probably would have gotten made fun of had I posted that at some other site. Thanks

Josh

Hey Josh, it's always good to hear a success story. Man, I'm proud of you !!! What you went through was extreemly difficult. I pray that you stay clean and sober forever. Congatulations !!

My father-in-law is sober now something like 23 years. He almost died from booze. Your doing great, keep it up!

Keep up the good work, Josh! Tough road to go down... tough to stay on, too, I'm sure. I have faith that you can do it!

My wife's family seems to have addictive tendencies. Her three brothers are alcoholics/drug users, so I know what that can do to relationships... not good.

Luckily, I met her when she was 16... she was smoking 2 packs a day and drinking and using, but not too much. After a couple of dates I told her that I wouldn't date her anymore if she continued to "use." She quit all of it cold turkey and never looked back. That was almost 20 years ago, so I know you can do it!

Congrats my friend.............

That is awesome! My entire family has alcoholics, I am 34 and have been a heavy beer drinker for the last 15 years. I am fighting also to quit. I have a lovely wife and 2 great boys, but about twice a month I have hellacious urges to drink. Like a Saturday night, or something like that. I am not a mean drunk looking for a fight or anything, although I will fight if provoked:D I just CRAVE the buzz:(
My wife has been VERY loving and I think she understands I have a problem, I just need to "man up" and quit totally.

Good job, I've seen people never come out of those slumps. Congratulations!
