Hello, I am going to look at a monte carlo tommorow with a friend and we need to know how to tell the difference between a 305 and a 350. The seller says it has been swaped to a 350 but we do not want to be taken.
Any help please

there is no obvious differences in appearance. One way, the casting numbers on the back of the block. You can go on line and check them out. Usually a 350 is an 010 at the end of the castings. If its a newer 350, some will have 5.7 stamped on the side of it, under the exhaust manifold area on the block. If its factory painted still, which I doubt, blue is 305, orange is 350. Another way is to drive it! 305's have no guts, especially a stock monte ss engine. I do suggest you look for casting numbers online, they are easy to locate on the back of the block, drivers side. Good luck.

305 have short fat balancers and 350 have taller skinnier balancers.unless they used the 305 balancer on the 350.good luck

I

I suggest you ask the guy to pop the hood.....and sneak in with some air tools and a breaker bar ;)

but... a genuine 350, when cleaned up pretty good, can get ya a little money to go torwards some more LC2 goodies.
