Is there any help for the 307 that came in some regals back then? Seems like the most dosile engine out there. Anyone ever done anything to get more power from one? Seems like stock compression is pretty low also. What is it about 8.0 to 1 or something like that?

Just get yourself a 455 Olds engine if you're thinking about going through the motor (rebuild). Same size and accessories and bolts right in. I wouldn't spend a bunch of money trying to soup up a 307. If you want to go fast with an Olds, go Big Block, of course the 403 is another option, but there's tons of 455's out there. HTH.

Yeah, I was just curious to see if anyone has done anything with these engines. They seem to have about as much stock hp as a na 3.8 and alot worse milage. About the only thing I have ever seen done to one is a high flow breather and dual exhaust.

Mondello did actually build a racecar with the 307 in it. I wish I could find times for the car, but the pic does have it pulling the front wheel, so it must have some power. God knows how expensive that would be to recreate though.

The 307 put in the Regals was 140hp variety, the 442 had a cam that bumped it to 180hp. Not sure how that compares to the na 3.8.

There's no hope for that engine though, the ports in the heads are set-up for emissions and breath really bad. Swapping heads means replacing everything but the shortblock to match up ports, and at that point you might as well go BB.
