I am possibly thinking of going with the 4l80E or a TH400 with a Yank L/U TC. I can get a 96 4L80E from a 4x4 truck. I can also get a TCM from a diesel truck that had a 4L80E in it with a mechanical fuel injection pump so the TCM was only there to run the trans. Would this work with me only needing the wiring harness to hook the 2 together or do I need a certain computer? I would assume this TCM would work, the truck had a TPS and ESS for the trans to reference....
TIA

You will want a 4l80 from a 2x4 truck, the tailshafts are totally different and won't work without you having to go and get a 2x4 tailshaft case anyways …Also any tranny that is 1997 or higher is best as they switched to steel pistons, rather than aluminum. If you can get a tranny out of a short bus, they have strait cut gears, they handle even more power. If you drag your car at all you are going to want to ditch the heavy ass converter, coan makes a real nice piece for $1000 that still will lock up to 3500 RPM stall.

As for a controller, you will want to talk to these guys. I hear they make the best controller around.

All said and done, you will have about 4500 into this thing to make it work correctly. I also don't know if you will have to "message" your trans tunnel to make it fit in the car as well.

You may also have to order up a new driveshaft as well? Just getting a good deal on a tranny and harness doesn't nessesarily make it worth it, figure if you spent the money in your 200r4 you may be way ahead.

Good luck, keep us informed.

I saw an advertisement in this months Popular Hot rodding of a TH400 with a Yank lock up conv. I might just go that route since it would be simpler and hold together. Right now I have a CK Performance Stage 2 trans with a 9/11 billet 3400 stall but my engine is getting rebuilt and is going to be making some serious power (700-800hp) and I dont want to get the thing together to spit the trans out the back. My trans now has 600 miles on it and I could prolly sell it to get a TH400 and still have $$ left over.
I "could" get a 2001 4L80E too but I was reading about having to redrill the motor mount holes to drop the engine a little and Im not sure if I want to do that too. The car is for the track but it still has A/C and will see street duty every weekend too. Maybe I will just run it until it breaks and then figure out what to put in there. :D
