Who is using OD at the track? I figured it would help ET to use most of 4th gear, with the right rear end ratio. I have added clutches in OD, and put in Art Carr stuff in tranny, will this work for high 10sec. runs? I have a non-lockup converter, and it seems like I needed OD right away. I love the 60' and 1/8 mile times of this loose converter, but it needs 4th. I am installing 4.10 gears in the rear to use 80% of OD at the track. 28" tall tires. Anyone doing this also?

not enough gear!!

I run a 5.14 gear. If you do the math in OD it works out to be the same as a 3.42 in drive. Most people on this board said it wouldn't work. They have said I would pick up .5 second if went back to a 3.42. I have run a best of 10.12 at 132.7mph. I ran 135mph the last day of the season. If I had my usal 1.40 60' that would have been a 9.90 pass. This is a iron headed TSM legal GN at 3760 lbs. The only billit part I don't have in the trans is the OD planet carrier. I've broke 2 of them but a well known trans builder said it was because I lock the converter not from using 4th. My reason for using this gear was to lesson the load on the motor and trans. It takes less power to get things rolling. In TSM you are on the edge anyways so every little bit helps. As far as helping ET, I think it would the same as a 3.42 in drive. I may, this year throw in a set of 3.50 and see.

I would not do a 3-4 shift with a converter locked. I run a non-lockup, and seem to need 4th even with a 28" tire and 3.42 gears. I think using four gears should be a little faster than three. No time is wasted during shifts like a manual trans car. Car gets better advantage all the way down the track. Same power, lower ET. Right? anyone else?

it was faster for me

a properly built (200-4r) can use all four gears..
4.10 rears from my experience with my T-Type and using all 4 gears in my tranny cut my ETs from 11.20 to 10.90s..
I also noticed that the engine redlined quicker and my transmission lasted longer...coincidense maybe...but I use to average 2 transmission rebuilds a season and after going with 4.10s and a 27" tall tire that same transmission I kept rebuilding twice a season lasted almost two seasons "rebuilt the same exact way."

That's good news. I had hoped to hear some positive feedback. I tried 3.73, but felt just like 3.42. So I now have 4.10, but have not installed. I think tranny will last longer with all four gears as opposed to using a lock-up in 3rd.

Hey Scott! How's your car comming along? Are you ever using 4th gear? I just tried out my new turbo, feels good! Putting in 4.10 gears tommorow. I may try to go to NC to do a little winter drag'n.

Not too good. I hope to have the Stock block car ready for March before I go on another 6 month deployment.

When you planning on going to NC.?

Plans changed. Greg offered me a little money to whip him in his old GN. He is buying it back!?? Fri night street fight! Meeting at the Kroger on Broad Street. It's like going to Richmond Drag, except no french fries. All the Richmond guys hang out there starting at about 10:00.

Anyone have any other thought about the OD theory?
Gain anything over just using three gears? I heard Race Jase is doing this. Who else?

TTT

Greg is one messed up dude. He is now selling a truck he has had for a week, now buying back his old slow crapped out GN, shopping for another GN, and even more car projects. His old car did not show up last night. Waste of time.

4.10 gears feel great! 67turbo feels great! can't wait for spring! 10sec runs for sure!!

Should be using 80% of OD.

I agree. Does he still have his stage car?

I'm sure you'll be in the 10's with the 60ft times you pull!
