I got aboug 5-6g's to spend on my T. The car is for the msot part stock. I know i'm goign to need. I'm in the process of putting a t400 w/ a brake and a 3500stall, so what parts would make a great streetable but 10sec capable car.

Its gonna take more than $5K-$6K to have a car that can reliably be run into the 10s on a regular basis. IMO Your looking at building the money pit and your better off buying a car that someone else built. How do I know??? In my build up ive got over $15K in engine/tranny

Buy built or go Stage engine and youll be better off in the long run. Im sure several people will disagree.Just my $.02

I disagree in part with the last post. I got my TTA to run MPH numbers that would have put it in the 10's with a real good 60' time and have nothing more than a TE45a, 50's, THDP, Walbro 340, powerplate, stock IC, and the basic garage tricks. Here is what I would do if I were you....copy Jason Cramers build up and call it good! You would be surprised how little he has and how fast he goes. You could eliminate some of the things he has to keep the budget in the black, but for the most part you could get real close with what you have to spend.

Broke1 is right, always cheaper to buy built, and it will probably cost you more to get in the 10s on the street. But, where is the fun in buying built? The best part for me is seeing the impovements from mods, and watching the car YOU built kick ass.

Here is what I would do if I were you....copy Jason Cramers build up and call it good!

Just the heads, turbo & FAST system from Jason's combo would be ~$5k! Unfortunately going 10's reliably takes a good chunk of $$$$$$$$!!! There's also a BIG difference between a 10.80 combo & a 10teen combo....

I've got about $6500 into my car's buildup & I've got a good $1500 more to spend (headwork, more turbo, etc...) before I'd feel comfortable running 10's (10.5 ~ 10.7) on a consistent basis. Then again I'm a big believer in overbuilding then de-tuning a bit, just to keep things together longer. ;)

Here are the meat & potatoes of my car's build:

CPP Competition shortblock (balanced & blueprinted): stock block, new stock crank, CPP spec 206 cam, 9:1 forged pistons (Venolia), billet caps on the centers & Race Jace engine girdle.

Stock heads freshened up with new springs etc... & 3 angle valve job

Ported stock intake & modded doghouse w/ 65mm throttle body

50# injectors (w/ matching CPP street chip burned for my combo)

Walbro 340, hot wire kit & Accufab billet regualtor

John Craig TE-61 turbo w/ PTE .63 exhaust housing

Terry Houston downpipe into a 3" Torque Tech exhaust with Dynomax Race Magnum bullet mufflers

Action Fab "stretch" intercooler

S&B air filter / homemade cold-air kit flowing into a solid MAF pipe

HR PartsNStuff poly driver's side motor mount

Mike Kurtz (Century Transmission) built tranny w/ an old Art Carr 3200 rpm 9/11" converter

Stock 3.42 w/ 28 spline Moser axles & c-clip eliminators

HR PartsNStuff lower & upper rear control arms

Average ET's in "fun mode" (xylene blend, street chip, 22~23 lbs of boost & 28 X 10.5" slicks) have been a solid string of 11.4's @ ~119.5 mph with 60 foots in the low 1.6's. It SHOULD be able to dip into the high tens on a race chip, C16 & ~25 lbs of boost but I'd rather ENJOY my car than rebuild it! ;)

A couple of years ago, I drove to Bristol from Charlotte, ran high 10's for the whole week and drove home. Basic setup was:

Champion Iron Heads
55# Injectors (but I would buy 72's instead now)
THDP
TRW forged pistons and Steel Mains
TE-64 (A TE-45A is same money and a bit bigger)
FM Intercooler (I may have had stock with big neck can't remember)
Single XP Plus pump
Reed 214-208 Flat tappet Cam
Stock ECM with Chip I tweaked for my car.

Talk to Red, he proably doesn't have much more in his build up and he's been like 10.43@133.x But he did do all his own work which keeps costs down ALOT.

turbov6joe how many times have you rebuilt or had to pull your engine??? Your car is also a TTA and ran better than TRs did off the showroom floor. There is a '86 T Type in the cars for sale section for like $12.5K and it pretty much has my same combo,I think he runs mid 10s. IMO buying built is the best way to go.If I had it to do over again ID BUY BUILT!!! ;)
