I have a GT 3561. Now I was planning on not doing any modifying and changing to a 6776. What is considered an internal and external wastegate, why do people talk about porting. Can't they just swap turbos and go?

here is a perfect picture of what an internal waste gate looks like.. notce the puck that covers the wastegate hole? sometimes on a big turbo you need to port out the waste gate hole on the turbo, so you dont have boost creep..

and here is a external waste gate.. notice no puck covering the hole on the turbo

Thanks for the pics. Now curious why would you port a brand new turbo. Is it not possible to just buy th 6776 bolt it up and go

yes you can ordered one already ported " or has large wastegate hole"
I got a smokin deal on mine from Gbodyparts.com i didnt even ask, and figured if i needed to, i'll just port the wastegate hole out my self to match the puck on my downpipe..

Mine wont run less then 25 psi.. felt so i good i decided just to tune for the higher boost instead of messing with the wastegate hole

I am very confused. I just saw a picture of one off of a sticky in this section and the exhaust hosing does not seem to be a standard bolt on turbo, it doesnt seem to have any bolt holes on it. Can you use a standard 3 1/2" THDP?

Quick set up:

3 1/2" THDP
ME-R chip
75# injectors
Standard tuning devices
PTE PLenum with PP
70mm throttle body
9" art carr 19930 converter
fully ported and polished heads
TA camshaft
alky
.030 forged pistons

to be honest i don't know the part number for the one with the bigger wastegate hole.. All i can tell you is the 6776RS is a direct bolt on, just ended up having a run a little more boost then i was wanting at first.

hopefully somebody with more knowledge can help us out

How much do those run? Also can you just use the standard puck or do you need a bigger puck. Also does the THDP work fine?

The bigger the turbo... the bigger the surge noise when you close the throttle. The 6776RH with a 4" MAF pipe is LOUD when I let off from any positive boost pressure at all, even 1-2 PSI. I love it. It's sort of a funny "Pooooof whoooot whooot" sound that passengers seem to have a real need to duplicate when it's heard for the first time.

Yes it will make the noise "just a little" even when there's no boost.

Around $1400 to start. Plus extras.....

You will need a bigger puck, like the one on TH pipe. Best to port match the wastegate hole to match the puck.

A standard puck (stock) will not work. Way too small.

Do the newer downpipes being sold by vendors these days feature the larger puck? For example the 3" one available from TR Custom Parts says the puck is 1 3/8". Is that bigger than stock?

Sorry bout all the questions but I'm pretty much sold on getting a 67BB but I want to know exactly what else I'll have to do to make it work on my car. Don't want a shiny new turbo sitting in a box in my house because I can't get it to work right.

As far as porting the wastegate hole is it possible with a grinder/dremel or is it advised to take it to a machine shop? How much smaller should the hole be than the puck to make sure there is still enough sealing surface?

1 3/8" is larger than stock, same as the THDP pucks.

A hole size in the housing of 1" should work fine for your application.

Just make sure it's one of the questions you ask the seller(s) when buying, what size hole is in the exhaust housing.

If I have a THDP, will I have to change the cpuck on it or is ir probably gonna be okay.

I'm running the 6776RH with 3-1/2" TH DP, bolts right up, puck will work fine.

MJRWOOD, thats is what I'm talking about, even the slightest bit of boost and letting off the throttle and the turbo talks to ya. I'm running a 4" intake pipe (no maf) and I guess its just more noticable now than before (the snorting that is). I drove it again this weekend, was able to control the "snorting" a little better with throttle control. I'll probably commence to porting the wg hole after the Noble event this coming weekend.

I don't see any problems arising from going to the 6776, very popular turbo and haven't heard any negative marks on it. Porting the wastegate hole to me is just another needed mod on most bigger turbos requiring low boost for street driving. I ported my last turbo (pt54) and could pull the boost down to 15 lbs no problem. Just wanted to get some feedback from those already running the 6776.
