Just wondering how much abuse a 7.5 (3.42)rear end will take. I was told it has a better carrier in it but i havent pulled the cover to see. So far the rear end has gone 1.6* sixty foots. Car should be running mid 11's soon so im guessing the 60's will be getting better.

Ok i remember now that it was built with a Auburn posi. So how much will a 7.5 take with a auburn posi?

i would use a ford 9 inch over a 7.5 any day. assuming that the 8.5 is out of the picture.

im just wondering how much this auburn posi 7.5 is going to take before i break it.

You gotta think about just how small the components of that Auburn are in there.
It won't survive for long.
The Auburn is by far better than a stock limited slip.

Believe it or not, I had a lot of luck with a Powertrax in a stock open carrier in a 7.5" in a V8 S10 years ago.
They do click but that's just because it's a very positive engagement.
I never ran slicks, though.
The little wheelspin I had at launch probably kept it alive.

ya i have a felling that its going to break sometime this year once i get the new motor in. i have been doing some 1.6* 60 ft.s and i plan on get some 1.5's this year since i have done a few suspension changes. The reason i have a 7.5 in the car is because i bent the axles on my 8.5 and i was young and didnt know any better about the 8.5

Holy Cow! 1.5's and 1.6's on a 7.5?
What's your secret? Divine intervention? ha ha ha
Please post the carnage pics when it finally gives up. :)

I'd build your old 8.5 in a heartbeat.
They're popular, parts are readily available and it's a no-brainer bolt-in.
Rather than starting from square one with a 9" or something.
Unless money is no object for you. ;)

the rear end got swaped out about 8 years ago and the car sat for a long time. right now im doing 1.6* sixty foots on 100% stock suspension with old tired out shocks. im going to be looking for a new rear end im sure before no time. i know who to turn to as soon as this one lets up.
