Greg, I hope you are out there. A friend gave me what he said is a TCI 27 spline 700 with a 242960 converter and said "Hope you can fix it. It won't shift" It only gets 2nd and 4th. I have gone thru the valve body, checked the governor, checked to make sure the pump halves are not leaking, made sure the separator plate gaskets were not blown out. It has a plate numbered 701R4 towards the rear of the plate. I can't find any serial number on the trans case to tell me who's trans it is. Any chance you might have some instructions for a valve body kit handy? The internals are in perfect condition and they only got to run it maybe a couple miles. A couple other shops here in town had no luck figuring it out so now it's my turn.:D I hope to have this figured out so I can sell it and buy some more things for my Hotair/Vega project. Thanks.

that doesnt make sense.if a trans shop cant figure it out they should open up a souvlaki cart and sell souvlakia.verify that the trans is auxilary or non auxilary type, then verify seperator plate is correct for auxilary or non auxilary.if the unit has 2nd and fourth ,it means that all the clutch packs are working although not applying or releasing at the proper time in synchronization with hydraulic information fed to the valve body from the governor and tv cable.are you sure its not second and third and that the governor doesnt close completely when the output shaft is not rotating?i think someone who understands transmissions should know in short order what it is,i know if was in my shop i certainly would.you cant fool the guesser.

The plate is an aftermarket plate and for the most part, the holes are in the right positions. There are two feed holes that are different from a stock plate and one of the exhaust holes in the valve body has a plug. There are restrictors in the governor return passage and in the reverse passage in the case. The shuttle ball "bathtub" in the valve body has a hole drilled to the manual valve passage. The manual valve is modified like a TransGo kit with the angle grind to release reverse quicker. Governor closes all the way bore does not leak and all clutch assemblies air check perfect. It is a non-auxilliary trans. No holes under support plate. I can only go by what this guy told me because I got the trans in a completely disassembled state. Of the two shops he had check the trans out, I have rebuilt at least 20 from each of them to fix their mistakes and yet they are still in business. When I got this trans, the last shop had orange silicone covering the pump O-ring, tail O-ring, governor cover, pan gasket, TV cable seal like they couldn't even use new seals and O-rings to make it right.

I'll just take the valve body and plate out and install my own kit which I know works.:D
