I have this posted in General tech forum. But thought I would post it here also. My car suddenly will not build past 8 pounds of boost, but quickly drops to 6 pounds. I am usualyy running 21 to 23 pounds. Stock turbo 100,000 miles. There is no shaft play whatsoever, no oil and spins freely. I installed a Q boost controller today thinking that may make a difference. I thought my solenoid may be bad so I went ahead and installed the controller. Made no difference. The hoses and clamps are all tight. No air sounds under the hood from leaks. Im just running low boost. The only thing that is loose is the downpipe at the turbo..It is leaking. I wouldn't think that would cause this problem.
I'm questioning my actuator. It is original. The arm will pull in and out if I take it loose from the waste gate. I converted it to an adjustable waste gate and I have the arm short for maximum boost. The car has alky. I had a friend watch the arm for movement while I had the car in reverse holding the brake building boost I was able to build to about 3 pounds...He said the arm was not moving while attached to the actuator. I have the arm short for higher boost, does that arm move out while while driving normal to keep boost low and then retract while under boost?
Also one thing I noticed with the Q boost controller is that I will hear a shot of air when I let off of the throttle from the cockpit valve. A friend of mine had an adjustable controller in his GN and you would always hear air coming from it while he was driving. This one is silent. One more question about that Q boost controller. If I have it closed is that more boost or less boost?
My biggest concern is what is going on with my low boost?
