82 Grand National

[johnplogii]

I found an 82 locally that I am looking at. It is very rough but appears to have been a turbo car? It has a gm goodwrench carburated 231 but has turbo 3.8 liter on the hood along with a map sensor & a factory "turbo power" guage in the dash. I thought I remembered 82 turbo cars being very rare in 82 (10-20?). Who knows what this car is worth?

Please Note! This is simply a list of VIN's I have collected since 1990. Don't conclude that cars not on the list are gone, junked, whatever. It just means I haven't come across them yet. Being 'registered' doesn't guarantee anything except that I believe the VIN listed is/was an '82 GN. Running a Carfax is a good way to trace a vehicle's history. If you happen to run a VIN on Carfax, please e-mail it to me.

Sequence Number - This is the last six digits of the VIN. This would be the order that each Regal, prior to conversion, was built (and the number I am sorting the list upon).

VIN - Vehicle Identification Number, the fifth digit denotes the model. J for base (with 4.1 V6) or K for Sport Coupe (with 3.8 Turbo V6).

C&C # - Conversion number from the now defunct Cars and Concepts. This would be the # of 215. The list I recieved was incomplete, so not all numbers are known (this is why the registry is sorted by sequence number). Note that the conversion number and sequence number are not correlated. These numbers were obtain from a partial list of 93 VIN's from cars and concept. The majority of the numbers are greater than 100. Some typos were found on the list, so verifying the VIN against a Carfax is best.

Date - Date listed by Cars and Concepts. Likely is the date of receipt of the car and not the actual conversion date.

It looks as if this guy has verified 35 turbo cars, I thought there were less. Still pretty rare. I am thinking about for the future as they don't seem to be worth squat now.

I "thought" there were only 15 but that was back in the day.... I thought 200 NA cars and 15 turbo cars.........

but his info is probably correct cause in the LAte 80's I was killing brain cells and trying to get teenie boppers in the back seat of my GN

That thread is not about this car. The car I am looking at IS Erics old one and the vin is still there. I sent you an email about that Rich, did you get it? The car I am looking at is 226031 a former turbo car that is rough, but still very complete minus the original motor.

Yes, I got the e-mail - I forwarded it to Eric and asked him to take a look at this thread. He posted a lot about 226031 in that thread I linked to.

This is from a 2002 thread:

Hello Rich, My 82 GN is pretty much history. I saved it from the crusher with hopes of restoring it but about the only thing that could be salvaged was the VIN and the turbo6 emblem on the speedo. It might still be in the Omaha NE area. The car was pretty much wasted by the last owner as rust consumed the floorpans and the original turbo motor was missing. I'd have to write this GN off as history.

I guess I misread that to mean he pulled the VIN and turbo 6 dash emblem. I'll fix the registry right now. I ran a Carfax a long time ago. That car was once in Grant Park, IL before making it to Nebraska.

I'd love to have one of those, or just restore one. I think they're great lookin cars, though, I'm a bit biased torwards the 80's.
