Looking at buying a 84 gn....guy says car runs rough when cold but straightens up when warm...said didnt do this until he had timing chain replaced. Cam position sensor off?

Is the car stock? What mods? Scan tool available? Otherwise everthing will be a guess. Thanks- Brad

Sounds like the idle air control valve (IAC) may need replaced, $40 Advanced Auto. Just a guess, ask him if he has ever done the "spring cleaning" on the car. Here is a link, The Grand National / T-Type / Turbo Regal Buick Spring Cleaning Guide
print it out and ask him when is the last time he did each of these.
This will give you a good insight of the condition of the car's maintenance.

Chuck

Car is stock other than a 87 stock turbo and 87 coil. I have a OTC scan tool but have'nt had time to check back with guy on the car. Car has been sitting since 2002 in garage. Said he had the timing chain replaced and it didnt right afterwards ran fine before...once warm he said car runs fine.

(Anyone else running the stock 87 turbo? how does it compare to the TA33 upgrade?)

I know this is the hot air area. But I changed my engine out to the intercooled setup, and my car does that same thing. It will idle but kind of bobble especially the first second when I rev it up. It does this until its warm, and then it purrs like a kitten. Revs up smooth as can be when warm. I havent worried about it too much, but now seeing 84buicks statement about the IAC, I wonder if that could be the problem.
