iv bought an 84 hot air car and im going to swap in all the 87stuff

i know it wont fully make it worth 86-87 but if a clean 84 with this this swap make it worth more?

i want to enjoy this car but wondering from an investment stand point as well

You will get varying opinions.
Just remember they are just that - opinions.
And we all know about OPINIONS.

So here's mine, and it's probably about par for the course.
It would be worth less. Because now you will have a mongrel.
It's no longer original.
A well restored hot air would be worth more - to me.

It's a car. This is a hobby. You can expect it to cost you money. In the car game it is generally the dealer that makes the money. This is a hobby and it is suppose to be fun and relaxing. If you're trying to make money I'd put money into something else.

It's worth less, but still more than a hotair if you do it right. I switched out because my 84 was bought for $800 and completely rust and dent free. Since my vision required modifying the hell out of the car, it worked out perfect, because I really didn't want to alter an 87 T with flares and louvers and no chrome.

I also believe it's worth more to a non internet savvy buyer, so I would say mne is worth $13,500 here and $15,000 to Joe Shmoe, and that's being optimistic. :D

I hate this. I have a pristine 84 GN fully restored, with all of the 86/87 stuff, including a BRF trans. I wanted the Lear interior. So I went and purchased my 84 and sold the 87. But its not worth as much. I don't get it. I feel it should pull the money any modified 86/87 should get. But I did not build it to sell it, just hate the thought if I had to that I would lose more money just because its an 84.

84 and 85 GN's should hold more value than they do, the wheels on the T-types were hideous, but other than that they were sweet too and they sell less than Monte SS' half of the time. :frown:

im not new to the car game just new to the gn

thank you to the ones that answered and your input is appriciated
iv got a line on a full 87 under hood and it seems all the good aftermarket stuff is 86-87

i just dont want to fk myself like i did on the malibu i just sold

The car is worth what someone will pay for it. They don't call them UPGRADES for nothing. To a collector, maybe not as much but to a car guy who knows what it is, quite a bit more.

+1 opinions are like "you know what" and everyone has one. worth more original. If your doing it just to race and drive around and have fun and are not looking to sell it. Just do it. Not alot of people like buying cars with a differant motor in it .Unless it is a stock replacement

Do whatever you like for the car. Whatever makes you happiest. I would not look at a hotair car for collector status though. Maybe 20 years from now.

I have a 85 GN with the LC2 components on it. Original block, but upgraded:D
