I can get an overdrive trans for less than 100 bucks. Previous owner vouched that it was good when he last parked it. All I gotta do is pay the money and pick it up. Will be refunded if no good. I just wanna get it to put in my car beings my tranny is fried, brown fluid, slips while just regular driving, and will take some time to get a rebuild done. Will this transmission hold up with a shift kit? Should I use the stall from my brf tranny?

I have never seeing a 2004r with out the BOP. I think they all have it. But I could be wrong.

The tranny should hold but I would be gentle with it.

Is there anything I should change on it, like swap converters? Or should I just put a shift kit in and go?

Use the D5 convertor from your BRF trans. If the bolt pattern is for a BOP then it will work. The shift points will be wrong, as it will probably shift around 4500 rpms. FYI, GM did make a 2004r that can only be bolted to a chevy engine.

How much stall am I gonna lose if I use the converter with the good tranny. My car is for the most part stock. Will the spool up be THAT much slower? Well screw it I'll just slapit in put a el cheapo transgo shift kit in and go. I figure by the time this one burns up I'll have the other one rebuilt.

It depends on how much crap is in the converter.

May be you can have the D5 serviced and then use it.
But to use it as-is is something I would never do

Good luck Dude
Dave

I will probably have it checked out before I slap it on. I would like to know if its still good anyways beings it will probably end back on the brf unless I get a screaming deal on an aftermarket.
