I called Buick today and was told the pickup tube/screen assembly is discontinued for the 85 cars. I found the one for the 86/87 models searching on here, I know advance auto parts sell like 6 different assemblies for the 85. Any recommendations on which one to get? I'm getting ready to drop my rebuilt motor in soon.

I bought one from Buick a month ago. The last one I bought sat farther toward the back of the motor and about half an inch farther away from the pan. Everytime I hit the brakes hard the oil pressure would hit 0. I was told this was the new updated replacement but I think it was a non-turbo pickup. This time I asked specifically for an 84 3.8 turbo pickup and the one I got was identical to the original, no mention of it being discontinued.

I have the 20 bolt oil pan on mine, will a 86/87 oil pickup tube/screen fit mine? Guess I will try a different buick dealership tommorow and see what they have to say.

oil pickup

did you try autozone or autozone.com.i found they have 6 different ones made by melling.should be able to get that is correct.

I checked advance auto, but I did a search on here for the oil pickup assembly and say a thread that recommended against getting a melling aftermarket one. I did however see sealed power makes one but kinda pricey $32 and a couple of clevite ones.

Ok checked with 3 buick dealers in my area, the 85 Grand National Oil screen assembly is discontinued. After talking to the third guy he recommended calling some Grand National Vendors. I told them a guy on here said he just bought one recently, he said that it was possible if they or a buick dealer in thier area had one on the shelf before they were discontinued. Good news is Poston carries the GM oil screen assembly. I never thought I would have a problem finding a oil screen assembly, thank god for vendors.
