Are you sure that the stock chip in the '86 ecm is good? It should just be a plug and play.

The 86 ecm came out of a 86 olds that's compatable with 86/87 TR .The chip is from the 86 olds that I thought was the same.

Olds as in Oldsmobile? Since when did Oldsmobiles come with Turbo V-6"s? There's your problem. Make sure the ECM is #1227148 the CalPak is #16036504 and the chip is compatable for your combo.

That ecm was used in several different cars but they used different chips. It even states on the gnttype website that the stock prom (chip) in those ecm's won't work in the TR's. I'd bet that is your problem. You can usually find a stock 86/87 chip real cheap. I've even seen aftermarket chips with a mild tune on ebay for as low as $10.00. I actually may have one that that has a mild tune that I could ship you for $15.00 paypal if you are interested. I took it out of my new "used" '87ecm when I upgraded to a TT chip.

Yes I know the ECM is used on 86 NA cars. I was being sarcastic about the Oldsmobile Chip. Like I said double check your part numbers. The chip and CalPak are Turbo Buick only.

my ecm came out of an Olds of some sort, and it runs fine in my 84. actually, it runs really smooth. it wouldn't run with the 84 chip in it, but i think i'm using my 84 calpac, tho..
i'm afraid to build up boost, however, since it's not a chip for a turbocharged motor in it. TurboTweak is going to be getting an order from me pretty soon.

Running the car with the wrong chip in at all is dumb and asking for a blown motor thats what he means novaderrik. This forum is for helping people not giving them info that could hurt their car. The computers fit in many cars Fmster, the chips are different call Turbo Tweak they will make you one custum for your setup dont experiment with something like that.

Boosted 84. Thanks for the support. Sometimes I wonder why I bother here anymore. I did take my car out yesterday and had alot of fun. Once you eliminate the gremlins these are nice cars. Take-care-Brad
