Hey guys has anyone tried to pipe in a 86 87 stock intercooler and shroud into the hotair setup. I just put in an electric fan and noticed the room I have now I would like to get a spearco kit but the piping is long and expensive. I was figuring that if I could get a hold of a 86/87 intercoooler and shroud pretty cheap that I may be able to pipe it in with some patience. Any one tried this or another wild setup that I could build.
Thanks Matt Wenning

Do a search on the Spearco there was someone on the board that took it and turned it sidways to fit in the stock location and fabricated a scoop for it. It was really well done and looked nice.

If your interested in using a rear mount IC I may have something for you. I did what your talking about. Its really not too hard although making everything from scratch took a while. First, I took an 84 intake and welded shut the inlet from the stock intercooler. Then I opened the entire bottom of the intake and milled out the dividers so that the entire intake became like an 86/87. Then welded a 2 1/2" inlet right where the 86/87 dog house is. I put a stretched rear mount in and "clocked" the turbo forward towards the intercooler. The throttle body remained in the stock position and was opened up to Lee Thompson's specs. The setup ran very well. Quite a change from the normal setup. I'm working on my Stage II powered Cobra and have parted out my GN. If your interested in this setup I have it all EXCEPT the stretch IC. But you can run a stocker with it or even a front mount. It doesn't really matter as the key to the power is the intake manifold, Throttle body and IC. Oh and I've got a really nice 3" down pipe and header setup also. The headers were just Ceramic coated so they are as new.

Do you have any pictures? I am interested in seeing the setup. I had the same idea, but could not find anyone to weld it up. If you do have pix, please post or send to me cmccray@officemax.com. How much for the down pipe and the intake?
Thanks,
