I know the GM paint code for a GN is 19. This is a solid black color. The problem is that my car, which has original paint, has that slight metallic gold in the paint. I believe other people on the forum have mentioned this even though their cars have original paint ( I cant seem to find those posts anymore) When I had the bumper fillers painted, they were solid black, which did not match the rest of the car. Has anyone been able to match the paint on cars with this very slight gold metallic color/flakes in the black paint? Can a bodyshop take the color on the car and have it matched or do they only go by paint codes?

Folklore says that the "flaky paint" was the result of contamination at Fisher Body..
Doubt you'll find a code for that combo.
The mix instructions for the code you want, will list exactly what and how much of each color, [tint] is used for that particular #.
As for a "match"... You mite find someone willing to try, but you may also end up buying all the mistakes.
Many GN's were repainted by the dlrs, for just that reason..[Along w/ $hitty workmanship, mismatched panels, dirt, etc.]

Why would you want to duplicate the flaws? The shop would mix the paint by the code. Which would be a solid black. Now I don't how well those paint scanners the high end shops use could duplicate the amount of metal particles in the paint. It might be worth a try to find one and see. Seems to me one or two tiny drops of gold paint is all you need in a quart of solid black. Than you would need to duplicate the painting technique. Take your painter out to the titty bar and load him up with beer and shooters. Than throw him in the paint booth and that should be darn near close to duplicating the technique.

The key to doing this is duplicating the size of the metal particles. Seems to me the myth says those were shavings from the paint equipment.

I will probably stick to just the solid black GN paint code as I am only doing the inserts. If I attempt to have metallic gold put in there, I am sure it will not come out right especially in direct sunlight. My car actually has a small yet evenly consistent amount of gold metallic in it throughout. I actually like the way it looks but what a %#* to match.

yare you the original owner?if not that may explain the flakes.you should see the flakes on top of the black not in it as these cars were painted using laquer.which was a single stage process.but with a two stage base clear proccess the flakes can be transfered from a gun thats not clean enough, and when the clear is applied over the basethe flakes are sandwiched under the clear.just a thought.its happened to me a few times.

It doesn't make difference on how long he owned the car. The factory paint was just plain crappy. Gold flakes in the solids or in the clear. It don't make a bit of a difference because it can't be duplicated.
