87 Grand national rearend

as the title says i have a rearend from a 87 gn it has posi and the 3.73. I had it in my 1982 monte carlo. Parting out the car needs to go.

GN's come with a 3.42 rear gear and the Cutlass' come with a 3.73 rear gear. Do you kow for sure this rear is a 3.73 rear gear? Where are you located and how much? Thanks

No need to be a d**k....I DID read the thread, I know he had it in his 82 Monte, i was asking for pics to verify it indeed was an 8.5 and NOT a 7.5...

G80 is the RPO code for posi in a GN. If its a stock rear then it should be 3.42 gears.

That's correct....the RPO for a posi is G80...the RPO for 3.42 gears is GU6.....for the Buick :wink: The only way to tell the gear ratio is to: 1) pull the cover and count the teeth, or 2) pull the axle housing code stamped on front of the pass side axle tube. That will tell you the gear ratio...if you have the book with all the codes for that model year.
