I was browsing through the local salvage yard to see what parts I could find off of some G body cars. I found a mint chrome 87 regal grill. I has the buick emblem on it too.

Could you clean this up, scuff it and spray it with some black trim paint to make it match a black out 87 grill? Would the paint adhere good?

They only wanted ten bucks so I figured why not. Everything is there too.

You could paint it BUT if it's a mint chrome grill it will bring quit a bit more than $10. ;) There's not a whole lot of nice 87 chrome grills out there.

Send me a few pics if you want to get rid of it, I'll trade you a nice blk 87 grill if the chrome on it is mint as described.

You'd have to scuff it good & then hit it with a self-etching primer, a regular primer, & then the black.

And in the end it will still look like a chrome grille that's been painted black.

Yeah I agree. The chrome is worth more than a black one. Flip it and buy a reproduction.;)

Seen the repop's at the GS Nats this year. I wished they would have completed them by adding the frosting look to the sides of the fins and the inside bottem of the grill....Just to much of a difference from the original for me.

Headlight bezels are dead on and nice.

+1. Used but in good shape grilles are bringing over 10 times what they're selling you that one for.

I found mine at a junkyard as well. It was chrome, I roughed it up with scothbrite pad. Bought 2 cans of dupont satin black trim paint(matches the rest of the trim pretty good) from meijers and painted it. I wasnt going to pay $200+ for a black 87 grille, when you really cant tell if you do a good job. I think it came out fine. Heres some pics if you wanna see.
