87 radiator users

who is using the 87 radiators in there hot air>? i have a external tranny coller and i was wondering is it ok just to run the tranny fluid threw the external or do i need to run it into the radiator? i want to put on the oil coller adapter piece on mine and run it like the 87 and hook it up to the radiator. i know the holes in the 87 raditor are for the oil cooler.

On the intercooled radiators, the oil cooler lines face the engine compartment. The trans lines exit out the front of the radiator and snake around to the engine compartment. I have the larger radiator in both my 84 T and 85 GN and I run the radiator cooler first (to help bring it up to temp) and then thru the external on both cars.

I know the true 87 radiators have two oil coolers in them. One for oil and one for tranny fluid. The oil cooler is in the front of the radiator.

will the 84 lines reach

will the 84 tranny lines reach around the front or how did u do that? i have a external tranny cooler how would i go about hooking this up. if my car wasnt taken aprt i could figure it out but i think it would be better to know now before i run into it later

The trans lines on my 87 rad go to the front of the rad , but they dont look the same is the 84-85 lines. You can just get the 87 lines and run them , or i guess you you can cut the 84-85 lines at the end and hose them to the front. I have mine ran the same way thru the rad then thru the trans cooler.

I put on the 87 tranny lines and used the oil cooler adaptor to run lines to the radiator oil cooler. I had to have a tube fabricated to clear the belts, though, but it looks factory now.

what lines did u bind 6 to go? oil or tranny?

The stock oil cooler line will be very close to the AC belt, so I had a hard line fabbed into the oil cooler line to go around (clear) the belt to assure no interference with the belt movement at speed.
It is just a short section of hard line and a hydraulic line shop did it for me for something like 20 or 30 $, I don't remember exactly.
