I cannot figure out how this adapter fits on to the new 87 stlye coil and module I have for my car. I have a ground strap attached to it for now due to it being case grounded.

I cant seem to figure out how that plate that comes with the kit from Caspers fits on making it possible to use the 85 bracket to bolt it to the engine.

It came with 3 studs that go thru the plate (to where I dont know) and the plate itself has 6 bolt holes (3 each side).

How does it fit to the 85 bracket that used to hold the original CCCI and module ?

I know some of you guys have one on your cars....help !!!

it didn't come with instructions?

fwiw, when i swapped in my type 2 coilpack/module i drilled new holes in my factory bracket and used the studs that were in the coilpack.i think i had to cut one off for clearance, but it works fine...

Nope no darn instructions...just the three studs and that plate with bolt holes around its edge....

Take a deep breath.

OK it's not too hard. If you look at the old mod it has four holes to mount it to the stand on the engine. The adaptor has four hole in the same place. You have to attach the new three bolt coil to the adaptor resessed holes down (these need to face the mounting plate. this give the bolts room to fit ) with the four screws already in place ( they should be long enough to put one screw and nut on, then attach the adaptor to the mounting plate with the remaining nuts.) You will have to remove it to get to all four bolts ( atleast I had to ). Hope this helps.

Okay...I think I understand that...

I'm gonna go mess with it a bit in the garage today and see what I come up with.

If I understand you - the adapter plate connects to the bottom of the new 87 module via the 3 stud type bolts with the square tabs on the ends. They screw into the bottom of the module...then you connect the bolts / screws from the plate to the engine bracket....that sound right ?

Thanks...

That's it

You got it. If you look at the attchement off the caspers site the screws and bolts have to be attached just like you see there. You have to have the four bolts and nuts on the four corners before you mount the new coil to the adaptor. After the coil is mounted you should have four nuts left to attach the whole thing to the mounting bracket. I have taken mine off so much I don't pay any attention any more but if you don't have enough clearance turn the recessed hole up to mount the new coil. When you mentioned the square holes it got me to thinking.

Thanks a lot for the help. Felt like the dumbest guy in the room - again...:D

Only thing that worries me about this thing is the whole issue of the module / coil pack being case grounded.

I wanna make sure I do it right to get a good ground. Before this I was using a ground strap to the bracket bolt that goes to the head !

What if you give it an insufficient ground or no ground at all ? Would the car not run or would you fry the coil pack or module...?????

You could Ground the studs

I grounded the studs on the coil pack with a home made set up. One wire to each stud all coming together at the bolt on the exhaust. So far so good.
