So since all my windows are out of the car i decided to take the opportunity and 1k wet sand the quarter window molding and all the moldings to repaint satin black already did the headlight bezels came out really nice after some sanding and prep work my question is when i put my 1/4 windows back on should i buy that windshield sealant that black glue kind of like silicone stuff and put a layer on the 1/4 window? or should i just put the 1/4 window with no adhesive just bolt it up on the inside? when i took them off it had a very thin layer not sure if they came like that on factory? feedback would be greatly appreciated my car's almost done hopefully this weekend put her together after finally getting her blocked and ready for paint..

the reason i ask is because i dont want any water to accumulate if i have sealant on there and possibly be a gap between body and 1/4 window great place to destroy my car and cause a rust issue down the line..some people say yes and some folks say no want to get advice from people who have experienced either or on there regal.

Hey I have painted a couple TRs and when I reinstalled the quarter windows, I used the 3m window weld urathane sealant. Not too sure if that's the exact name but it's a white tube you put into a caulking gun. Has a NASCAR logo on it too lol. If you put a bead of it around the inner part of the window opening on the car itself, it'll seal up real nice, then you can bolt it back in. Just make sure to not to put too much because it'll squish out past the seal. Good luck with the project!

The stuff the factory used is butyl rubber. Doesn't ever really harden. Available at most auto parts stores, it's been used in automotive glass for decades, until flush mount glass became popular. Then they had to switch to urethane, which cures out and holds really good. In fact, it's TOO good for this application. Will seal it up great, but if that window ever has to come back out, good luck.

I'd use butyl rubber. It's available in a roll, kind of a rope form, layer it in there good, it'll seal.

The nickname in the business is elephant sh!t so it may help you go to a shop and get the amount you need rather than buy a big roll of it. The stuff isn't cheap like it used to be.:)
