Looking to install a 9 inch and was wondering what is needed to do the install ? Can the stock driveshaft be used ? Will it need to be shortened ? Also at what hp is it time to upgrade to a 9 inch ? Thanks

My rear end finally went. Many 10 second passes off transbrake. I'm thinking around 750hp at rear wheels. Thought about the 9" but I was in a hurry. I ended up doing All Moser , 33 spline axles and c clip eliminators. Gears & spool. Now I'm not afraid of breaking it.

The 8.5 can go well into the 9's with axles, spool/carrier and c clip eliminators or 9" ends. You can do 31 or 33 splines. You should weld axle tubes into the center section. Adding bracing isn't a bad idea either.
