The highest octane gas you can buy at the pump where I live is 90 octane. I have a tt 93 street chip, any advice on running this chip with the available gas. The guys at the track here say that 90 octane where we live acts more like 93 on the coast:confused: Not exactly sure what that means.

Dumas!? Ding dong daddies!? My father in law lives there! You aren't the guy who owns the gas station on a corner there are you? I used to see one a hot air parked there when we'd go to visit, but haven't been out there in years.

Here in alb all we can get at the pump is 91. Supposedly because of the altitude, as you go up in elevation, you don't need as much octane, which is fine for N/A. You have any way to monitor knock? (Scanmaster, knock gauge?) Just watch for detonation or not run as much boost as you would with 93. Or get alky and not worry about it:D

That would be Bones at that gas station, we went to school together, I'm about a block from their station. He has a low 8 sec and a 11 sec gn. No hot air there, unless it was a long time ago and the one that was there was the one they put a new engine in (which I bought 5 years ago). I have a scanmaster, and sometimes can hear knock before my SM picks it up. I have 009's with walbro, adj fp regulator set at 43 lbs. still need to get my hotwire put in this week. No boost regulator, my boost gauge only goes up to 15 (the car has a real gnx cluster in it). I'm guessing by the amount its passing the 15# mark I'm building about 17-18#s of boost. I'm ordering new boost gauge this week, plan on running this weekend at Smokin Amarillo Dragway. B4 I swapped out my inj. and chip I had the same knock problem with the chip that was in there for the stock injectors, it was a chip for 93 also. But when I mixed about 5 gal of 102 50/50 with pump I never heard knock, that was last year before I had my scanmaster.

before i put alky on my car i could only run about 14-15# of boost with 90 octane.

Either add alky, or pull timing out of your TT chip.

I bought the chip and injectors from a board member, so I don't have instructions how to pull the timing. I think my street chip is a .3 version, and my race chip is a .6 version.

Go here: ( http://www.turbotweak.com ), click on "downloads" and you'll find instructions for your versions of the TT chips. Pull some timing, as suggested. A Razor's Alky Kit is also an excellent solution to your problem. Then you can add boost/gain performance instead of suffering from the lack of octane/high cost of race gas.

Visit TurboTweak Home and click on downloads near the top. When the new screen opens up, there will be a link for the PDF's of the installation and adjustments for the chips. There is one for the version 5.3 through 5.5 and another for version 5.6. I printed off a couple of copies and keep one in the glovebox with my current settings written down in case the battery dies or I disconnect it. HTH

Have a new chip with a baseline adjustment. Not safe to be pulling timing. If the chip settings were erased unknowingly then you could have severe detonation. Chips are cheap and take a couple days to get

Thanks for the advice guys, after reading the instructions I noticed I can only pull 1 degree out of it, hopefully that'll be enough. I plan on mixing some race fuel with my pump gas this weekend anyhow, so that should take care of me this time. I definitely need to upgrade the 5.3 chip to a 5.6, and get me an alky setup. Only so much money, and to many places to spend it on these cars. LOL. My wastegate does have and adjustable rod on it so I can adjust my boost some. If I'm still getting KR with the race gas mix would you suggest lowering the boost first or taking out some timing first?

Since you don't know exactly what PSI you're running yet(not enough boost gauge), loosen your wastegate rod and lower the boost. One degree of timing less probably won't do the trick.

I thought they closed the Amarillo Drags? Damn, that's where I bought my 87GN @ wastegate chevrolet back in 91. so how are things in dumas,Tx. feel in love with a girl from there. ooops wrong topic... anyhow, if you can get your ride to amarillo, take it to George @ boost performance on Hillside Rd. he's the man to see in Amarillo.

OK--another option,,, Install your ver 5.6x Race Chip, (ck for it's default timing==23/21--whatever...), then pull timing to get to around 18/16 (you can pull up to 9.1 deg from this chip--sepatately, both 1-2 & 3-4 gears) & there-you-go!!

Remember to ck BLM's (key on, engine off, before each start-up--do while you FP & PM are "pumping-up"), to insure no power interruption since last start/running & timing return to higher default values...
