Have a 96 Sunfire 2dr, 2.2L manual trans. 140k miles.

Got home from work and parked it Thursday night, tried to start it Tuesday morning and it wouldn't crank. Had previously started fine before that.

The battery is fully charged, I cleaned a little corrosion off of it, and it will not even attempt to turn over. No malfunction codes, all fuses appear to be fine.

I am thinking since it won't even try to turn over, try a new ignition modual before a new starter?

I'm no Sunfire expert but what about the clutch/neutral safety switch?

I was wondering the same thing as it was backed up an incline. I tried moving the floor mat to get the pedal down as far as possable. I don't really know how/where to start on that.

Probably not the module keeping it from cranking. Check for a 12 volt signal at the starters small wire when a helper tries to crank it. The heavy lead should be constantly hot. Sometimes if you bang on a bad starter it will work for the minute. My guess is the starter.

theres a recall from gm to add a relay to the starter trigger wire( the ign switch was getting overloaded).
if this hasn't been done, gm should fix:biggrin:
if it has, look for a added relay on rad support on drivers side.check it. HTH<Gary

if not the prob, like said above check starter closely.

It does have the relay. It's funny you point that out, because I always thought it didn't look very "factory". I'll check it out.
