I have a 97 intrepid w/ 3.3 and I was driving to work when I passed another car that was going slower. After that it felt like it had a plugged fuel filter. It didn't have any power. It was kind of intermittent.
Then all of the sudden it was like I put it in neutral, it would just rev up and nothing. I would put it in neutral and back in gear and it would catch and do it all over again.
Then when I was doing that it would go into gear but would not shift out of low. Which I guess is safe mode for it.
The check engine light came on, and the code are.

p0733,p0735,p0700

I checked the fluid thinking maybe it was low ,and it was full, color was great, and it didn't smell at all. Surely the trans couldn't have burned up.
I need help don't know what to do. Last weekend the fuel pump went out of the Yukon ( you can see my other post on that one) and left me stranded and now this.

You would be hard pressed to find one of those cars with more than 100,000 miles on the original trans. Chrysler automatics from that era are just plain crap

And the whole car is probably not worth the price of a tranny. Time for a new ride?

Common problem with those cars after 80k miles on them. It needs a new solenoid pack. When the solenoids are gone the computer puts the car into limp mode so you don't damage the transmission. I had done it on my 2002 Chrysler 300M Special edition. It cost me $325 to have a tranny shop do it for me. You can always pull the ecm fuse and let it sit for 2 min and plug it back in. That will reset the computer and remove the trouble code from the ecm and allow you to drive it normal again for a little while before it does it again, or get one of those hand held OBDII code readers and clear the codes using that.

Our Eagle vision did the same exact thing and it needed a trans just over 100k miles

It went into limp mode and when this happens it locks into second gear ...it would be anything from solonoid pack to a input/output speed sensor.

Take it to a tranny shop and have them put the Code reader on it. They will tell you its the solenoid pack and the price to install it.
Online it says:

P0700 EATX Ctrller DTC Present
P0735 Gear 5 Incorrect Ratio
P0733 Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio

Does your speedometer still work? If not replace the input/output speed sensors first before condemning the trans.

I repaired a similar issue with a chrysler recently and it was a the trans computer defective....

The solenoid pack on my 2002 Sebring was leaking fluid. I could have bought a new pack for $125 from parts store but I let the local shop install it for me. I was pissed because he charged me over $300! He doubled the price of the part, plus added $50 labor. So be warned!

i was once given a really nice 94 LHS because the trans only had second gear and it needed head gaskets.. i did the head gaskets first, then changed the fluid in the trans, making sure to use the proper overpriced ATF+4 fluid for it... it had first and second, and would sometimes shift into third... so i changed the fluid and filter again, and it worked perfectly until i sold the car for $700 18 months later... that was a nice car, liked the way it drove and it was easy to work on since the engine is pointed in the proper direction despite it being a fwd car..

I think you just unbolt the old one, carefully scrape off the gasket and install the new one. Must be a wire connector involved too. Very easy. Mine is located on the transmission by the driver side fender iirc.

Ok thanks.

To answer an earlier question I forgot. I think the speedo was still working, didn't notice it not working when all of this happened.

Take it to a trusted shop and have them interpret the codes. Could be electrical as in speed sensors but a ratio error could be a broken drum.

2000-newer solenoid packs are known for leaking on cars with transverse mounted engines but failures are actually quite rare. On an lh body it has a 42le (606) trans which is similar but different than cars with transverse engines. Solenoid pack is in the trans above the vb and doesn't need seals. I'd be very surprised if a solenoid pack fixes it. Btw for you guys with 41te/604 trans (transverse engines). Gasket kits are available through the aftermarket to fix the leaky solenoid packs. I've done dozens of them.
