97 riviera no start but turns over why???

my 97 riviera started last night, battery light came on went out and then the dash lit up like a christmas tree. Heater control went crazy flashing and surging. Then the car died.Now it turns over but will not fire and I have no service engine light I can hear the fuel pump working. Can any one help me out???

I have no fuel pump or service engine sson light. Just turns over will not start and the heater control went from c degrees to c degrees?? Any ideas or web sites to help??

check for spark, and what the fuel pressure looks like?. might be a crankshaft sensor or the coil module if a no spark situation occure.

I have spark, but no fuel pump or sevice engine light. Does the ecm not tell the fuel pump to turn on? Could this bad bad ecm?

do you mean the fuel pump relay? But what about the no ses light. Does the ecm not tell the pump to activate?

check for codes...there may be a code set that doesn't light the SES

check the fuel pressure at the rail

Could be the coolant temp sensor

Do you have a series I or II engine?. I know the series II engine have it. the 98 buick regal GS has it under or around the battery area. it a white porclin/rock connected by two wires. I am not sure where you will fine it on the riv.

I have a series II the battery is under the back seat.Is there a fuse for the ses light by any chance? Iam looking for a scanner to put on it pull the codes. I have a feeling it all leads back to the pcm not powering the fuel pump......

the pcm will not turn the fuel pump off unless the VAT system (activated). I did not get any time to research this issue. but i also know the pump is control by a resistor which control pump speed base on rpm and MAP sensor (load). it`s gm way of extending the live of the FP. I will see if your car is equipt with a resistor (service manual). If the resistor fail the fuel pump will not turn on.

don`t forget the fues. check?

If your ignition key has the little chip on it,try a different key.I've had two cars in my shop for this problem this week.When the chip goes bad,You won't get injector pulse.
