Weren't those year GM trucks having problems with the fuel pump wiring harness "overamping" and burning off the connector shell at the tank? If the filter is clogged, it would cause the pump to pull more amps. Could also make the engine lean enough to pop through the exhaust...

I have a 99 Z71 and it is not a lemon, the fuel pump lasted 240K the truck now has 280K and is still running strong and I plan on never getting rid of it.Yes it has some piston slap on the first start of the day and it burns a quart of oil in 3000 miles but it's been like that since I got it at 50K.

We had a Suburban on the rack doing a trans R&R so trying to get that done then on to my stuff, got to pay the bills first;)
