R-12 is legal, not legal to buy unless you are refrigerant recovery certified. R12 is still available or there is a drop in refrigerant called Hot Shot that is for sale. Coming to Maryland anytime soon??

I believe you can also use 409A

Freeze 12 is a much better alternative to R12 and works event better.
