Many thanks for all the replies to my previous posts.
Okay - Here's some more questions.
Planning on removing everything (bumpers, lights, mirrors, weather-stripping, quarter windows, etc.) with the exception of the front and rear windows. Okay to just mask off the trim on those?
80 grit on a DA, but will try to avoid going to bare metal. (I probably will, but that's not what I want - I think?)
Will go to bare metal on the very few spots that need body work.
1. Do I prime before I do (minimal) body work?
2. Do not understand the primers and the sealers. Never used a sealer before. Advice?
3. What do you do about the edges (lips) on the trunk, hood and doors? I don't plan on shooting the door jambs or under the hood. Do you paint with them open a bit, or closed - and if they should be left partially open, how do you mask?
Appreciated you know-how and willingness to share.
Paul

First of all, don't DA your car with 80 grit. What condition is the paint on your car and what are you planning to paint it with and what color is it? What do you mean by window trim? The sweeps?

If your not shooting the door jambs, mask the jambs and leave the doors closed. I'd suggest shooting the hood and the trunk off the car. Easier to do a nice job on those surfaces and fully paint around the edges. It also allows you to shoot the surfaces on the car that are under the trunk and hood. Of course mask off the engine compartment and inside the trunk. Also remove the sill right behind the rear window for painting.

Thanks yet again.
Actually, 220 looks pretty good to me.
The paint on the car is pretty good. It was done once before with some kind of CC. Has the usual chips on the front, a bubble (solder?) on the roof on the driver's side, and some "outee" dents on the rear quarters from something sliding around the the trunk.
Basically, it looks like an "okay" paint job that never got sanded and buffed out correctly.
Lots of orange peel.
Might have to do some work on the back lower corner of the driver's door. Don't know if it's rust or not.
Don't mean the sweeps on the doors. Planning on taking them (the sweeps) off before painting.
Thought I could maybe leave the windshield and back window intact, and just mask off the trim pieces (?)
Will do BC/CC in black - sometime before August. :)
I was at the Nationals in Columbus and saw a Red Regal (GN?) in the parking lot at our motel. Could that have been you?
Thanks
Paul

If the paints in good condition, and you want to do a nice job, block it all down flat, past orange peel with 320 or 400 wet. Use a sqeegee to check as you go. Dents that are outty.......knock down as flat as you can, then fill. Remove window trim with removal tool. Remove door handles and locks. Just dig into any bubbles to see if it's rust and remove it all and treat with a rust stopper of your choice.

That wasn't me at the Ohio Nats.
