A friend who is a mechanic was over last night and naturally we were out in the shop looking at my cars.
I started my T-Type up and right away he said "You've got an exhaust leak." I'm slightly hard of hearing, (Ok, ok, I can't hear schit
) so I never heard the sound. I asked him if he could pinpoint where it was. He asked if I had a stethescope and I produced two...the type you put a shaft directly on the engine to pick up mechanical sounds and the type doctors use. He grabbed the doctor's one (my wife is a nurse so she probably stole it from some doctor and I stole it from her) and he tore the pickup end off, just leaving the rubber tube.
Within 20 seconds he had found the leak. He handed me the stethescope and told me to try it. Basically you can't hear much as you move it around each joint between header/head until you're right on the leak then it's a very, very loud hiss. My leak happened to be between flange and Racegate.
I was really impressed with this method since it works so perfectly. I suggest ya'll go out and get a doctor's stethescope....see if you can leave it attached to the nurse.
