What is the dis-connected, three wire unit there? My mechanic left it open and when I plug it up a motor starts somewhere in the engine, but I can't pinpoint it.
What is this connector, why did my mechanic leave it open?

Power antenna. Common issue. The barrel one next to it is the actual lead that runs to the radio for the antenna.

Ahh yeah! It doesn't go up and down at all! 
My 1987 GN is an orginal family owner! My Dad bought it when I was 10 years old. Kept it in great condition, but the last 10 years were hard on it with not driving much at all!
Only one speaker works anyways!
I do love the car though. When I drive it, I often feel like my Dad is back with me after passing away 2 years ago.

There are people here that can repair the antenna, also there are some "how to's" for the repair here, if you feel friskey.
