Is there a way to tell what size turbo is on my car ? The previous owner said it has a Precision Turbo 51 on it. Well precision has a TA51 and a PT51. All I can say is it has Precision stamped on the exhaust housing, three bolt mount.

if it's a TA-51 then on the inlet(wheel side of the compressor housing) has a bell(cone) shape bolted to it then it's a TA-51.if the inlet is molded(made) on the housing then it's a PT-51.

turbo

I purchased a TA52.. but it has the molded in inlet bell.. any ideas or comments? thanks

like i said before, i beleive the TA sereies are the stock appearing with the inlet bell and the PT-TE series are not stock appearing with the molded inlet bells. you might want to call whoever you got the turbo from and clarify what you have. but either way they are both good turbos.

TURBO

:D So I come to find out with your info that I have a PT or T series 52 turbo.. is that better than a TA series? Im not so much into ratings of turbos.. :D

the TE-PT housings flow a little more air and are more efficient than the TA but it's very small gains like 10-15 i believe. but the TA housings will spool faster than the TE-PT housings.so i guess you could say there a trade off in the two different housings.both work good though so nothing to worry about. BTW, the PT-52 is a killer turbo.

Turbo news

Even better news I think.....
I take this turbo off for redoing the manifold to head sealing, and see that this is a T62. How would you say this turbo rates? Plus, wondering if anyone knows what combo to use.. I have 009's in there now, I purchases a set of 50lbers, and I want to go with the vigilante stall.. does that seem reasonable.. I also have the ATR integral gate dp.. The turbo is very laggy, which Im sure is due to a few things (stock stall, no exhaust after DP, and possibly the cam..) Let me know what you guys think...

I think you need a 3200 stall converter to spool a 62 turbo.

I know I did. :)

Sure it would.

Lockup I would use got a 3000 stall single disk in the car with my PTE51 and it works well, even lock it up now and then when racing. ;)

3200 stall I use in the other car is a Protorque 10" lockup also works well and is also single disk.

For pure racing and high horsepower I would consider the 5 disk lockup or perhaps the billet 9x11 converters.

Mine are street cars mostly and no heads and cam so I risk using the single disk at the track.

Thanks for the info Salvage V6.. I've got a few nick nacks inside and out of my motor.. some call them scamods.. I call them stock.. haha.. Just installed the 50lbers and it seems to run a bit smoother.. I think exhaust is also a slight problem.. running only the dp with turn down.. no back pressure.. :D

A PTE-51 will only have 10 blades on the exhaust side. This is the only turbo that I know of that only has 10 blades. The TA series has a removeable inlet bell and TE series does not.
