I am so Stoked that my AC is working again after a 2 year hiatus.
Tonight Pronto & myself came back from a local cruise night.
It was so muggy out that I wished i had my AC.

We decided to go jiggle the switch on the Accumulator? Evaporator? While turing the AC to MAX.. The Compressor started clicking back to life.;) ;) ;)

YEEE HA What a way to start my vacation :)

If it blows cold, you might have the same problem I had. Bad pressure cycling switch on the side of the accumulator. p/n 3041336 I think, ~$16 fixed it.

Thanks TurboJim :)

turbo jim did that switch replacement require drain down of the
Freon?
Was that part to be had at buick dealer? or any place like NAPA.

Try disconnecting the harness to the pressure switch, and put the A/C controls in the car to max. With the car running, jump the connector on the harness, and the compressor should start.

If you are getting cold air inside the car, it is likely the switch is bad.

If you are not getting cold air in the car, you are probably low on Freon or have a leak.

You can remove the switch, without losing all the freon, there is a shrader valve behind it, but a very small amount will come out. The manual says to use a new o-ring, and lube with refrigerant oil if replacing the switch. I would think most auto parts stores carry it, it's common on most 80's GM cars. Also, I think you are only supposed to torque it to 8 ft-lbs, the threads on it are plastic.

Good luck!

Pete
