This may be kinda long but I want to get the details as to try and figure out my issue.
When I set the lever to Max the AC Compressore does not always kick on. In order to get it to kick on I had to disconnect the connector on the back of the compressor or connector on the accumalator.
I figured maybe I had leak and the freon was low. I decided I was going to vacuum the system out and put in fresh freon to make sure the system was full.
After the vacuum was complete, I started to add the freon but had to disconnect the connectors mentioned above for the compressor to kick on. After a few times of doing this I was finally able to get the freon added. However, as I was to put the car in gear to take for a spin the car died. After trying to restart it I realized the battery went dead.
It seems after disconnecting and reconnecting the connectors somehow killed the alternator. I would not even say so far as the alternator being dead but low on the charge output.
I had another alternator laying around that I know was good so I decided to change the alternator out and installing the re-charged battery. I was showing about 13.8 to 14.0 on the scanmaster.
I decided I was going to try and run the AC again to see what happens. As I set the level on Max it did not engage the compressor. I then decided I would not disconnect any of the connectors only this time I would move the lever to the different settings and move back to Max to try and engage the compressor. I did this a few times and was successful, but I notice that the alterantors output charge dropped a little. Now I was reading about 13.3 as my highest reading. I know if I kept this up the alterantor would eventually get lower and lower.
What is in the alteranator that is getting fried? Is it a short in my system killing it? Could it be the switch in the Unit itself that needs to be changed?
What type of trouble shooting can be done to try and figure out the problem?
TIA!
